1996 Girls 2011 Outdoor Team

The team competed in the Lake Country Icebreaker in Kelowna in April as a warmup to the 2011 outdoor season. Competing against Lower Mainland teams who were a year older and had been together all winter, the squad placed a respectable 4th in U16. Upcoming travel includes a trip to Minneapolis in July 2011 for the USA Cup and a tournament in the lower mainland in the fall of 2011. There are also plans for a European tournament in the summer of 2012.

2006/07 Indoor Season

What a season! The team started off with a bang and then struggled through a challenging losing streak mid-season. The girls began to come together at the Calgary tournament in January where they finished a respectable 4th playing against older teams. Through hard work and believing in a system of play, the team put together a phenomenal winning streak in the latter half of the season to finish with silver in league play and earn a berth in the EIYSA/EMSA city playdowns. At playdowns, despite being the youngest team with all 1996 born and 3 1997 born players, the team played some of their finest soccer and the undefeated streak continued allowing them to finish first and advance to the Alberta Indoor Soccer Provincials as Edmonton I and City Champions! Provincials did not go as well as hoped with the team finishing 6th out of 8 teams in competition. However, this was a great learning experience for the girls and definitely something for the team to build on for the future. To quote a cliche -- in order to win you have to lose first. The girls had fun, worked hard, learned a great deal of soccer skills, life skills and formed some strong friendships this indoor season. The coaches look forward to a great outdoor season working with a group of outstanding young female athletes.
