Young developmental athletes often undertrain and overcompete. The OUTCOME (i.e. winning) becomes the focus at the expense of optimal training and development (PROCESS). Lack of general motor skill development at young ages cannot be restored at later ages leading to a reduced potential for peak performance. Our program embraces features of the Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) program which promotes optimal training, competition and recovery with relation to biological development and maturation. This program develops “physical literacy” or acquistion of fundamental motor skills (RJT = Run /Jump /Throw, ABC = Agility / Balance / Coordination) and basic sport skills (CKS = Catch / Kick/Strike).
