Season |

|
Welcome to
all returning and new players to the 1994 Girls Southwest United team.
We've had a great start to our season with a tournament in Vancouver, BC
over the Thanksgiving weekend. Playing up 2 years, the squad earned the
GOLD medal at the North Shore Girls tournament. Four games and four victories...3
shut outs with only 1 goal scored over the weekend. The team played very
well. Our defensive game remains the strength of our play. Our attacking
game is becoming versatile and effective. We look forward to our next challenge
at the San Diego Surf College Cup at the end of November. |

1994 Girls Win at Calgary College Search Showcase |
 |
| The
1994 SWU girls squad competed in the first annual Calgary
College Search
Showcase tournament on June 27-28. This was
the first showcase tournament hosted in Alberta for girls teams in
the 1992-1994 age category. Numerous
Canadian and US universities/colleges were in attendance to observe
the games. The girls played one team from Edmonton and two teams
from Calgary
and won each game 2-0. These three games were played within 24 hours,
so the team was able to deal with the heat as well as fatigue.
This was a terrific
accomplishment for the team. The squad is just finishing their regular
season play in the U18 Tier 2 division and will be representing EIYSA
at Provincials in August. |

Coaches
Corner
The
1994 outdoor team travelled to Victoria BC for a 9-day training camp.
A total of ten -
2-hour training sessions were completed along with 4 exhibition games against
U14 and U15 teams from the city of Victoria. The weather was challenging at
times and included rain, hail and snow, sometimes in the same session! Living
altogether under the roof of one house was also quite the experience! The team's
performance improved across the camp and the players are keen to get the outdoor
season underway!
Other
News
After
coaching the team for the past 11 seasons, John has passed the
torch to Vicki and Keith who will continue to provide quality coaching
and pursue excellence for the players and the team. |

North
Shore Tournment, Vancouver BC -A Good Weekend, Despite Rainy Weather |
The North Shore Tournament was a great experience for the team. The
girls had to deal with adverse weather and injuries. Saturday's first
game resulted in a 1-1 tie off of a great effort by Kalina and Kirsten.
The girls won the second game 4-0 with goals from Savanna, Kirsten
and two from Stenor including a header. On Sunday afternoon they played
against the number one team in the Metro League and tied them 1-1.
They were a very technical hard playing team. Our goal came off of
a header by Meredith.
The game fields were artificial turf and excellent to play on although
the ball was difficult to control in the wet conditions and the girls
had to adjust to the pace of the pass. By the end of the first game,
the team had adjusted very well. A great team effort! |

the name of SWU "Munchkins", six of the 1994 girls squad

were combined. In round robin play, the Munchkins played and won
all four of their games, each 30 minutes in length of fast-paced
3 v 3. Their fifth game was for the gold medal and was played against
a U16 Rangers team. The Munchkins were victorious, winning 13-3.
Well done!
