Victoria,
B.C. Camp

What an awesome
experience! Four days of instruction from Dave Dew, Mike Rigg, Tracy David,
and others. Exhibition matches. University dorms and fields. Beaches,
bunnies, and team-building. And all at temperatures close to 40ºC
on the turf. Thanks to our Victoria friends.

Las
Vegas Showcase

Fun
in the sun and under the lights! Playing at the American U15 level, the
team played well with 1 win, 1 tie, and 2 losses – not bad, considering
it was the first grass (and 30ºC) they had seen in months. Yes, they
did the strip, but we won’t mention about the popcorn.

Pull and All-Nighter For A Good Cause!

The SWU girls
raised $3200 for the 2006 Canadian Cancer Society Relay for Life event
on May 26th at Foote Field. They arrived to a buzzing Foote Field as the
1500 Relay for Life participants were busy setting up their campsites
for the evening. At 7 pm the relay officially started and the girls began
their laps around the track. Everyone took their turn on the track and
during free times donned Sumo Wrestling suits and bounced off the walls
in the inflated castle. The coaches Daren Ure and Rick Fraser, along with
parent Susan Ulan organized and supervised the girls until 8 am the next
morning. Parents arrived early to help take down SWU’s camp and
take sleep-deprived girls home. While soccer is the magnet that pulls
these girls together, giving back to their community is their common thread.

Win Gold at Calgary Indoor Tournament

SWU
U14-II Girls posted a convincing 8-2 win over Celtic Angels to win the
Gold Medal in the January, 2006, Calgary Indoor Tournament. SWU advanced
out of the round robin with record of 2 wins, 1 tie, and a 22-3 goals-for-against
ratio. A well-orchestrated defense, intelligent offensive plays, and strong
individual efforts by every player were keys to the team’s success.
The win comes at the midway point of the indoor season, where the team
leads both in the indoor soccer and futsal leagues.
